Freeride Snowboard Camp in Saint-Lary

Are you comfortable snowboarding on the slopes and want to go further?

THE Snowboard Freeride Evolution 2 course in Saint-Lary accompanies you in your first steps towards a more complete practice of the mountains.

During 3 sessions of 2.5 hours each, You learn to adapt your technique to ungroomed snow, to use the terrain, to choose your trajectories and to better understand the terrain on which you are moving.

The group is intentionally limited to Maximum 4 riders in order to maintain truly personalized support.

One level only: Freeride Discovery

This course is for snowboarders who have already mastered their board on the slopes and wish to gradually discover freeriding.

Prerequisites: to be self-reliant in snowboarding, to control one's speed and trajectories and to be comfortable on red slopes.

No prior freeride experience is necessary.

3 sessions to progress

SESSION 1 — RIDER

Adapting your technique when the snow and terrain change: position, balance, support, speed control, turns in unpacked snow and use of the terrain.

SESSION 2 — READ

Start looking at the mountain differently: observe the terrain, anticipate changes in slope, understand the different qualities of snow and learn to choose a suitable trajectory.

SESSION 3 — EXPLORE

Put your acquired skills into practice on a field chosen by your instructor based on the group's level and the day's conditions.

The goal: to gradually gain confidence and independence when you leave the groomed slopes.

Technical aspects, fieldwork and safety

Freeriding is not just about knowing how to descend in ungroomed snow.

Your instructor will gradually make you more aware of the reading the terrain, group behavior, and the fundamentals of mountain safety.

THE DVA, shovel and probe are included in order to familiarize yourself with the essential equipment for freeriding.

The content of the course and the terrains used are systematically adapted to the snow conditions, the weather, the level of the group and the safety conditions.

A specialist snowboard instructor

Your internship is supervised by a snowboard instructor specialist, with teaching experience acquired in particular within the Swiss Snowboard School of Verbier.

A snowboard-specific approach to work on your technique, your feel for the terrain, and your understanding of the terrain.

Maximum 4 riders

We are deliberately limiting the internship to Maximum 4 participants.

This small group size allows the instructor to observe each rider, provide individual corrections, and adapt the terrain to the actual progress of the group.

Safety equipment included

For each participant, Evolution 2 provides:

  • 1 DVA (Avalanche Victim Detector); ;
  • 1 shovel ;
  • 1 probe.

Snowboard, boots, helmet and other protective gear are not included in the course and can be booked separately at Evolution 2 Saint-Lary.

Freeride Snowboard Course in Saint-Lary: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to have prior experience in freeriding?

No. This course is specifically designed to gradually introduce you to freeriding. However, you must be proficient in snowboarding and comfortable on red runs.

Do you need to be an expert snowboarder?

No. This is a Freeride Discovery level. Your instructor will adapt the exercises and terrain selection to the actual level of the group.

Does the training course necessarily take place off-piste?

No. The choice of terrain depends on snow conditions, weather, and safety conditions. Some lessons can also be learned on or near the slopes.

Is safety equipment provided?

Yes. The avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe are included for each participant.

Is the snowboard included?

No. Snowboards and boots are not included. They can be reserved separately at Evolution 2 Saint-Lary.

How many riders are participating in the training camp?

The group is limited to Maximum 4 riders in order to maintain a personalized approach.
